St. Patrick’s Day Fun For NYC Families 2013

Annual NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and there are tons of family-friendly ways to celebrate. Whether you’re looking for ways to learn more about Irish culture, watch parades, or go on a walk, these events will lend lots of green-themed fun.

March 9

The Craic
The Irish Arts Center presents The Kids Film Fleadh where kids can learn about Irish music, stories, and dilm! There will be storytelling with special guests Honor Molly and John Liam Shea along with the best award-winning children’s short films such as Pete Hate, Bird Food, and Thin Ice. Plus, an Irish step dancing performance will conclude the show!

Irish Dance Party
With live music featuring Niall O’Leary and dancers from the Niall O’Leary School of Irish Dance, you and your little ones will not only learn some new music but also be up on your feet! Come and watch this free performance while learning a new dance steps along the way.

March 16

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
What’s a celebration without a parade? Watch one of the world’s largest annual parades marching up Fifth Avenue starting at 11am. Be sure to check out each borough, because all five will be having their own celebrations as well. Get ready for lots of bagpipe music and plenty of participants!

Big Onion Walking Tours
Dive into some Irish history by visiting the former “Little Ireland” district of the Lower East Side with a special tour of St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. This family friendly tour will explain why St. Patrick’s Day is more popular here in the city than in Ireland! Stops will include places such as the founding site of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, All Smith’s home, the first Catholic church in the city, and much more!

St. Patrick’s Day Party with Citibabes
Citibabes will be holding a party for young tots to celebrate the luck of the Irish! Join them for arts and crafts, face painting, live music, cupcake decorating with Junior’s Fresh, and more.

St. Patty’s Day Shopping Party in Brooklyn
If you’re looking to avoid major crowds, do some shopping for some vintage pieces to add to the wardrobe. Antoinette, an exclusive vintage/consignment shop, will be offering a 10% discount on their competitive prices and pouring complimentary wine all day.

Sober St. Patrick’s Day
To indulge more in the celebration rather than the drinking associated with the holiday, join last year’s sold-out success of Sober St. Patrick’s Day! See what the true spirit of St. Patrick’s Day is all about and learn all about Irish culture in a “rip-roaring” party. This year will feature internationally acclaimed artists such as John Whelan, Brian Conway, and Haley Richardson.

March 16 & 17

Brooklyn Children’s Museum
If you’re around Brooklyn, spend the day learning about Irish culture, food, and traditions with your kids at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. They’ll also make their own lucky charm to bring home!
