Have you treated your child to a New Victory Theater performance? If you’re not familiar with the celebrated storytelling venue, prepare to be delighted by the upcoming 2013-14 season. Featuring entertaining offerings for all age groups, the theater granted us a sneak peek at their most anticipated shows, including new kinds of programming for audiences from baby to 5 year old (and their parents).
*Let’s start with Peter Pan, shall we? Starting in October, the theater promises to mix up a timeless classic as it transports the Darlings’ bedroom into a fantastical place involving fairy dust and flying but nary a green tight. Great for ages 7 and older.
*For perhaps a more hearty injection of culture, take in Mother Africa this December, which will resemble a private holiday party for the audience as Ethiopian jugglers, Tanzanian stilt walkers, and a renowned Kenyan contortionist perform energetically to the beat of traditional afro-sounds. It’s colorful, happy, and bold—and ideal for the 5 and up crowd.
*In February, Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds will have little ones 5 and older chirping with glee. Don’t miss this musical performance interweaving Marley’s heartwarming songs and his daughter’s poignant children’s book. You remember Marley from way-back-when; isn’t it time you introduced his soothing songs of love and peace to your children?
*Springtime will bring Bello Mania to the stage in April. Recommended for 4+ years, we wouldn’t want any tot to miss an opportunity to see the guy with the foot-high hair—and the really long name (Demetrius Alexandro Claudio Amadeus Bello Nock)—act like a clown and then some as he performs daring stunts and keeps the crowd in side-stitches.
*Perfect for the under-5 crew—and new to the lineup for the youngest of audiences—are Songs From Above, This [Baby] Life, and Baby Rave. Songs debuts in November and is for ages 2-5, while the latter two are excellent options for babies as young as 4 months! But the really cool thing about these performances might be in the pre-show, Busy Bees—a program involving arts and crafts takeaways, so you’ll always remember your child’s first theater experience.
