SATURDAY

Get active at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s special Family Field Day at Pier 6! This lively group of events includes sports like volleyball, basketball, and soccer, as well as fun contests like potato sack and relay races. Get in the game! (Saturday)

Hudson River Park’s Pier 84 is hosting this scrumptious festival with America’s best blues and roots musicians along with three of the city’s tastiest barbecue joints. Listen up and dig in! (Saturday)

Tennis fans and otherwise will have a blast at the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day in Flushing Meadows, Corona Park! With free family activities like face painting, 10 and under tennis, hair beading and braiding, and appearances by beloved Nickelodeon characters, the day will be nonstop fun. Get some relief from the summer heat at Asphalt Green’s Sprinkler Day, where kids can frolic in the sprinkler spray on the outdoor field. Be sure to bring a towel and grab a free flavored ice on your way out. Jump into the spray! (Saturday)

Bird lovers will want to check out this annual Shorebird Festival. NYC Audubon Members and other birders will hike around the East Pond during peak migration time, and learn about refuge issues and wildlife management. Spread your wings! (Saturday)

Honor the 238th anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn with a “Brooklyn vs. Britain” scavenger hunt battle at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center. Play to win!  (Saturday)

Spend an evening star-gazing during Astronomy Night at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Local astronomers will answer questions and teach stargazers how to operate high-powered telescopes. Reach for the stars! (Saturday)

Celebrate the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the film “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return” with a sing-a-long, double-decker bus tour of city landmarks such as the Central Park Zoo and and Rockefeller Center. The Holderness family will be on hand for games, prizes and more. Hit the yellow brick road!  (Saturday)

Harness the power of the sun! Take your child to play with wheels, gears and tools and  build a solar-powered toy racing car at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. Start your engines! (Saturday)

SUNDAY

Check out the NYC Volkswagen Traffic Jam, a spectator-judged, vintage Volkswagen car show. Enjoy a picnic, a view of the New York Harbor and Statue of Liberty, as well as Beetles, buses, Dune Buggies, and more. Punch Buggy! (Sunday)

Come to the 37th annual Brighton Jubilee Festival on to experience multiple entertainment stages, shopping booths, kiddie rides, and some great food. Get the party started! (Sunday)

Witness Hello Kitty’s Yankee Stadium debut! The first 18,000 guests ages 14 and under to Sunday’s game will receive a bobblehead of Hello Kitty in a Yankees uniform, and have the chance to hug their favorite cat. Play ball! (Sunday)

The Wild Center

Studio E Art Classes
