Unicycle Festival NYC 2015
(Uni)cyclists of all ages and abilities are welcome at Unicycle Festival NYC 2015! This annual event takes place over several days beginning in Battery Park on Thursday and culminating with the main events on Governors Island on Saturday and Sunday. Fest activities on Governors Island include one-wheeled relay races, kite flying, sumo wrestling, and games of unicycle basketball and hockey. This year, for the first time, the festival will host a costume contest during which cyclists can vie for top prizes. Festival-goers can also learn how to ride a unicycle during afternoon riding workshops. (Thursday-Sunday) -
Back-2-School Jam at the Brooklyn Children's Museum
All ages are invited to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum this Friday for the 10th annual Back-2-School Jam. Enjoy activities such as ambulance and fire truck tours, arts and crafts, a bounce house, a cooking class, story time, a raffle, a jammin’ dance party, and much more! (Friday) -
Public Works: "The Odyssey" at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park
This Labor Day weekend, visit Central Park’s Delacorte Theater for the Public Works production of “The Odyssey.” Homer’s epic tale of Odysseus and his encounters with sirens, the Cyclops and a sorceress, is re-imagined in this musical theater adaptation. This production will also feature cameo group performances by the New York Youth Symphony, the TADA! Youth Theater, and others. (Friday-Monday) -
New York Caribbean Carnival Week: Junior Carnival Parade at the Brooklyn Museum
As part of this year’s West Indian American Day Carnival, the kids can march in their very own parade, and enjoy the Stay in School Concert and College Fair! The Junior Carnival will feature hip hop dance, karate, a fashion show, and more. The parade begins at Kingston Avenue/St. John’s Place and continues to Franklin Avenue/President Street ending at Brooklyn Museum. (Saturday) -
The Butterfly Conservatory at AMNH
The Butterfly Conservatory is back at the American Museum of Natural History! More than 500 of these winged creatures can be found fluttering through the conservatory during this seasonal exhibition. Butterfly lovers of all ages will learn about the caterpillar transformation process and other fascinating butterfly facts. Species include swallowtails, blue morphos, and owls. (Opens Saturday) -
The Pop Ups at the Bronx Zoo
The Grammy-nominated band the Pop Ups will perform hits from their latest album at the Bronx Zoo. Enhance your child’s experience at the zoo with live music, puppet shows and dance routines. (Saturday and Sunday) -
Mid-Autumn Moon Festival in Chinatown
Chinatown will host the second annual Mid-Autumn Moon Festival this Saturday. All ages can enjoy street dance performances, giveaways, arts and crafts, traditional Chinese food, and more. This year’s live entertainment includes a Zumba session and a performance by the Salome James Jazz Trio. (Saturday) -
West Side County Fair in Riverside Park
What better way to celebrate Labor Day weekend than with a county fair! The West Side County Fair in Riverside Park will include attractions like sideshow performers, carnival rides and games, reptile shows, aerialists, and live music. 23rd Great North River Tugboat Race and Competition
Watch as tugboats race on the Hudson during the 23rd Annual Great North River Tugboat Race & Competition. Boats will also vie for awards in “nose to nose pushing” and “line toss” competitions. Kids will get a kick out of watching (and participating in their own!) spinach eating contest. To view all the racing action from the water, hop aboard the Spectator Boat. Boat departs at 9:30am. Brazilian Day 2015
