The Rinx, a Hauppauge-based ice rink, has expanded its ice-skating programs to the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center in Bethpage. This town-operated indoor ice rink offers The Rinx’s Total Skating and Total Hockey programs.
The Total Skating Program has lessons for beginner to advanced skaters. There are four skills classes based on age: 3-5, 6-11, 12-17, and 18 and older. All students go through the basic curriculum divided into eight levels. Each time a student passes a level, he or she gets a patch and graduates to the next.
The Youth Hockey Clinic offers a Pee Wee-Bantam Skills Clinic and the Future Rangers Program. The Pee Wee-Bantam Clinic, for high school players who want to improve their individual skills, runs for 10 sessions and focuses on skating, stick handling, and shooting and ends with an intensive scrimmage. The Future Rangers Program, for children ages 5-11 aspiring to be a future pro player, teaches the fundamentals of hockey. As an added bonus, kids in this program get a Rangers jersey and an alumni meet-and-greet session.
The Rinx at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center also offers a summer hockey school that runs for eight weeks with intermediate (ages 5-15) and advanced (ages 6-14) levels. Early arrival and late pick-up is available for working parents. This program starts June 24 and runs through Aug. 16.
