Keep Your Cool

We didn’t want to believe it, but we knew the balmy temps of summer 2015 were too good to be true. In case you haven’t taken a look at the forecast (or stepped outside the past few days), our mild summer weather has been interrupted by a heat wave that could last through next week. But have no fear–we’ve got tons of ideas for helping you and the kids stay cool, even as the mercury moves into the 90s.

1) Head to a playground with water features for the kids to splash and play in. Here are some of our favorites, but you can even search for spray showers by borough on the NYC Parks website.

2) New York is full of amazing ice cream shops–grab a cone from one of these local favorites, or try one of these funky frozen treats.

3) Take a dip in a local pool. Because of the heat advisory, public pool hours have been extended until 8pm today (July 29).

4) Enjoy the blasting AC at a local museum: Explore Himalayan art at the Rubin, for example, learn fun facts about spiders at the American Museum of Natural History, or delve into the world of Katniss Everdeen at Discovery Times Square’s “Hunger Games: The Exhibition.”

5) Leave the city altogether. Check out the Pocono region’s hot new water park, or take off for one of these easy beach getaways.
