Don’t miss NYC’s biggest annual block party! This year the 37th annual Museum Mile Festival will kick off at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and feature special exhibitions from such prominent NYC museums as the Met, the Guggenheim, the Jewish Museum, and many others. From 82nd to 105th Streets, entertainers such as Silly Billy the Very Funny Clown and Sammie and Tudie’s Imagination Playhouse will take to 5th Avenue as families explore this rich mix of visual and performing arts! This event is free and will be held rain or shine.

New York Family is proud to support the Coalition for the Homeless’ Carnival Night For Kids, taking place on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the Victorian Gardens in Central Park from 5:30-8:30pm. It’s a truly special night that provides families with the opportunity to have fun and enjoy each other, while coming together to help other NYC families in need. Revelers will enjoy book signings from award-winning authors, a cupcake tasting station, amusement park rides, carnival games, a gaga pit, and more! Tickets are $150 per adult; $100 per child.

Internationally renowned storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston is coming to Lincoln Center to share her repertoire of songs and stories from the African and African-American oral traditions, accompanied by traditional African music. Audience participation is encouraged as Alston brings these stories to life and shares the mythology, beliefs, and cultural practices that have been preserved for generations. Recommended for ages 4 and up. Tickets are $25.

Big Apple Barbecue Block Party

Rustle up the kids and head over to Madison Square Park for some BBQ! The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is a two-day food fest where visitors can sample barbecued ribs, chicken, sausage and more from the best pitmasters in the US. The block party will also include cooking seminars with nationally renowned chefs, plus live music by Whiskey Shivers and Nikki Lane. Admission is free; a BigPiggin’ VIP pass is $275.

This year the city’s only open air pow-wow will honor the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso and actress/singer Tichina Arnold. Featuring the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, this Native American festival will include festivities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, food, a guest appearance in the Environmental Tent by Captain Planet, live dance and drumming performances, and, new this year, a World Market Tent. Hosted by Sandra Bookman. This event is free and will take place rain or shine.
