What do a burlesque show,
a festival a la Japanese culture and a petting zoo all have in common? They’re
all happening within miles of each other this weekend. (Gotta love New York!) So get out there and embrace the brimming
festivities with a grin. —
The NY Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building is celebrating its hundredth birthday (boy do we feel spritely) with
a Centennial Celebration. We strongly encourage a weekend spent in the
stacks—complete with magic shows, free ice cream and comedy performances.
Was The Wiggles the last
band you danced to? Take time out for some empowering adults-only fun at The
Delancey’s Hot Mama Burlesque Show and cheer on sing-song and stripteasing moms
with moxie. And
keep that mama spirit spinning through Sunday and bring the whole family out to
Mamapalooza to celebrate the strength and presence of awesome females.
Get a little taste of how
our country counterparts live, head over to the 14th Street Y’s Farm in the
City Fair.
Japan still needs help, and New Yorkers can always be reminded of Central Park’s
loveliness. Get both refreshing reminders at the park’s all-day Japan Day
Festival.
Speaking of good causes,
you can also have some good ole carnival and concert fun at Webster Hall to
support the Children’s Museum of the Arts expansion.
Family days forever! Check
out a ton of artsy activities at the Whitney Museum’s Community Day (hey you,
High Line)
or get behind-the-scenes of the NYPD at the NY Police Museum’s Family Day.
If you’re a new or
expectant mom in Queens, head over to the New Mama’s Expo (thanks to local
website Queens Mamas) this Sunday to learn the tips & tricks of the trade
and meet other new or almost-parents. Share (and compare) anxieties and
triumphs!
