Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival In Flushing Meadows Corona Park
This year marks the 26th anniversary of the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in NYC! Dragon boats are traditional Chinese boats that are powered by a crew of approximately 20 people. Typically, a drummer leads the team as the drumbeat helps the crew synchronize their strokes. Watch a multitude of different dragon boat races and traditional music and dance performances from around the world during this annual cultural Chinese event. Natural Tie-Dyeing Workshop At The Museum Of Arts And Design
Join the Museum of Arts and Design this Saturday for a Natural Tie-Dyeing workshop! Textile artist Barrie Cohen of Beezie Textiles will lead this two-hour program during which participants will learn the art of Japanese tie-dyeing. Using indigo, onion skins, and cochineal, guests can dye small items such as tea towels and t-shirts. All materials will be provided; guests may bring their own small items to dye. 36th Annual Battery Dance Festival In Wagner Park
Get those happy feet movin’ with the 36th annual Battery Dance Festival. New York’s longest-running free public dance festival features a range of dancers from emerging to professional, as well as an even wider scope of genres. Dancers and choreographers from as far afield as Asia, South Africa, and the Caribbean will spin and sashay through Battery Park City as they give a series of free outdoor performances for all ages. Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian's Legacy
<p>The Morgan Library &amp; Museum will present a major exhibition devoted to the life and career of its inaugural director, Belle da Costa Greene (1879&ndash;1950). Widely recognized as an authority on illuminated manuscripts and deeply respected as a cultural heritage executive, Greene was one of the most prominent librarians in American history. The exhibition will trace Greene&rsquo;s storied life, from her roots in a predominantly Black community in Washington, D.C., to her distinguished career at the helm of one of the world&rsquo;s great research libraries. Through extraordinary objects―from medieval manuscripts and rare printed books to archival records and portraits―the exhibition will demonstrate the confidence and savvy Greene brought to her roles as librarian, scholar, curator, and cultural executive, and honor her enduring legacy.</p>
