If you plan on attending, be sure to read our guide to the best viewing spots. But the fun doesn’t end there. Whether you opt to head indoors and catch a movie (like the “The Polar Express” in IMAX) or outdoors (perhaps to watch the 30th annual tree lighting at South Street Seaport), holiday activities abound. The 30th annual holiday tree lighting ceremony—complete with live performances—also marks the opening of a brand-new ice skating rink. Come celebrate! (Friday)

The Greenbelt Nature Center lets you walk off your turkey dinner with a 2-hour hike. Lace up your boots! (Friday)

 SATURDAY

A special kid-friendly one-hour production of Keith Michael’s “The Nutcracker” opens at the Tarrytown Music Hall. Enjoy the show! (Saturday)

Learn how to make breakfast more creative with the help of “Funny Food” author Bill Wurtzel, who’s on hand at the Bank Street Bookstore. Read up! (Saturday)

 

STARTING SUNDAY

Join Ben Rudnick and Friends for a concert of original tunes and popular classics—including special Hanukkah music. Sing along! (Sunday)

MONDAY

Join Lincoln Square’s annual Winter’s Eve celebration, which features the Upper West Side’s only tree lighting ceremony, live entertainment (including folk legend Arlo Guthrie), children’s activities, and food tastings from celebrated restaurants. Happy Holidays!

 

TUESDAY

Help out your community with a 3-hour-long event at the West Side Y–among the many activities will be making super hero capes for ill children. Give back!
