Weekend Planner: May 31-June 3

Dare we dream that the weather finally acts like it’s the beginning of summer? We sure hope so, with a host of fantastic family fests and events happening this weekend. We’re looking forward to an amazing World Science Festival, the Whitney Museum’s family day, a hipster kids carnival, and much more. Get out there!

 

STARTING FRIDAY

Sandy who? Red Hook will be hopping at its annual festival as usual, starting off with a scrumptious BBQ, followed by a parade and free kayaking. Party it up! (Friday & Saturday)

Revel in the art and history of the music video at The Museum of the Moving Image’s newest exhibit, exploring more than 300 clips and props across a range of genres. Rock on. (Friday-Sunday)

Here’s something you don’t see every day: All throughout NYC, 88 pianos have been scattered around in public spaces for families to play and enjoy. Ready to jam? (Friday-Sunday)

 

STARTING SATURDAY

The Great HOWL! Out Loud Kids Carnival brings miniature golf, crafts, performances, and opportunities aplenty to show off your artistic side. Got your creative hats? (Saturday)

Make your very own puppet with the help of TADA! Youth Theater’s professional artists, then learn its original “Making A Friend” song and get on stage. Don’t be shy! (Saturday)

Ever heard of a book that can be read both front to back and back to front? Catch the live retelling of A Long Way From Home at the MoMA Design store. Trippy! (Saturday)

Experience the Chinese folk tale of the Monkey King through an interactive family show of fan, ribbon, and sword dances and more at Lincoln Center. Get cultured! (Saturday)

Calling all hoopers: Torly Kid’s Tween Party means a hula hoop contest, an airbrush station, French braids, and morewith a charity angle. Get the scoop here. (Saturday)

Get some laughs at the Kids Kabaret at the Metropolitan Room, featuring a hilarious and interactive show from Mario the Magician and his live dove sidekick. Dive in! (Saturday)
