"iLuminate Artist of Light" at New World Stages

It’s hot out there! If you’re looking for ways to cool down this summer, we have tons of ideas for you–from MoMA’s rainy indoor exhibit (and everything you need to know about the lines) to an outdoor program on the power of water to playgrounds with aquatic wonders. Dive in!

Then there’s the great mix of indoor and outdoor fun happening this weekend only, including Governor Island’s Water Festival, a free Theatreworks USA show, Firefighter Appreciation at the Intrepid, and much more.

 

STARTING FRIDAY

Tech meets modern dance in “iLuminate Artist of Light,” an other-worldly show at New World Stages in which neon light suits glow and flash in sync with performers’ leaps, spins, and stomps. See it to believe it! (Friday-Sunday)

Get ready to wobble and wiggle at The Irish Arts Center, where “Wobble,” an energetic two-man performance about friendship will enchant ages 2-4. Groovy. (Friday-Sunday)

Know who invented the remote control? Explore working models of science legend Nikola Tesla’s inventions at New York Hall of Science’s new exhibit. Electrifying! (Friday-Sunday)

Theatreworks USA celebrates their Free Summer Theatre program’s 25th anniversary with a whole new show about the Civil War. Hello, time travel. (Friday & Sunday)

Cool down with the City of Water Festival on Governors Island, featuring ferry rides, kayaking, marine critter touch tanks, mini-solar car racing, and much more. Dive in! (Saturday)

The New Museum Block Party means livemusic, free museum admission, and craft time for postcard and kinetic sculpture fun–all at Sara D. Roosevelt Park. Feeling creative? (Saturday)

Get in touch with nature by combiningnatural and recycled materials to create costumes and leaf drawings during Solar One’s EcoArt Family Day. Go green! (Saturday)

To serve those parents and keep the children connected and stimulated during this challenging time, we are offering NYSP Digital Summer Camp. The name of the game with NYSP Summer Camp is community. Our game masters have pre-made character sheets, so you'll be able to start playing the game right away! We adapt the rules of traditional Dungeons & Dragons to make them more approachable to children of various ages. Battle in dungeons, search for relics, and make new friends in our one-of-a-kind Dungeons & Dragons workshop! </p> <p dir="ltr"> </p> <p dir="ltr">Public games meet once per week, with different groups every time. Private games meet 1 to 2 times per week with the same group of kids. Since the players and the storyteller in the group are consistent, this enables us to tell epic tales of adventure together!</p> <p dir="ltr"> </p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Dungeons & Dragons Junior</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">No experience is required to join one of our drop-in Dungeons & Dragons games. Our Dungeons & Dragons Jr. game provides a D&D storytelling experience without character sheets. Battle in dungeons, search for relics, and make new friends in our one-of-a-kind Dungeons & Dragons workshop! A great way to introduce young children to D&D so they can eventually move onto the main game.</p>

New Settlement Community Center

<p>Offering a host of healthy, fun and exciting programs for children ages 6 months and up, including ballet and hi-hop dance with Alvin Ailey, group and private swimm classes, mixed martial arts, youth technology, piano, violin and guitar lessons, and more.</p>

The Music Institute of Long Island

<p dir="ltr">Established in 1990, the Music Institute of Long Island (MILI) is a classical music school staffed by exceptional instructors from many of the most prestigious conservatories and graduate music schools in the United States and Europe. Long Island’s foremost musical academies, its instrumental programs include violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone and voice classes. MILI has been voted # 1 BEST MUSIC SCHOOL Consistently. </p> <p dir="ltr">They teach the Traditional, Suzuki, and ABRSM methods. Students participate in All-National, All-Eastern, All-State, youth orchestras, and score highly in NYSSMA and Royal Academy Music Festivals.
