Scary-Island!

Orange leaves, warm days, cool nights and a big yellow moon: It must be Fall. Come out, come out all ghosties, ghoulies, goblins and spooks, and enjoy the season of the witch on Staten Island. From Tottenville to Randall’s Manor, there’s much to do:

Pumpkins, hayrides and corn maze

Start off the month with pumpkin picking, good old-fashioned hayrides and a corn maze every weekend — Oct. 2 through Oct. 30 at Decker Farms.

Decker Farms is New York’s oldest continually farmed site. Enjoy a day of crafts, pumpkin picking, hayrides, colonial games and a romp through a traditional corn maze.

Haunted house and corn maze

For a ghoulishly grand time visit “booterific” Greenside-Up Nursery, which is a scary good place to be this October.

“Trapped In Purgatory” is a haunted attraction that has been voted one of the top five haunted attractions in New York State. This year’s edition is scarier than ever, featuring a haunted corn maze which leads to the main attraction, a haunted house themed “Outbreak” — a contaminated office building that has been quarantined and all those inside are infected. Getting in is easy enough, getting out without getting infected is the tricky part!

Boo-ware — the corn maze and haunted house are not for the faint of heart.

Greener Community Fall Festival

Music, entertainment, a pumpkin patch, face painting, health screenings, games and educational talks are all part of the family fun to be had at the third annual Greener Fall Festival, Oct. 2.

Try your luck at raffles, crafting, or a game of Energy Trivia. The kids can enjoy face painting, a costume parade, inflatable rides and lots of seasonal treats. There’s plenty of free parking.

Night of Fright

Be afraid, very afraid, the ghosts of the criminally insane will be haunting the church and cemetery of the Church of St. Andrew on Oct. 22, 23 and 29.

This year the theme is “St. Andrew’s Asylum of the Criminally Insane.” Is there any other kind?

Walk through the church and hear the sounds of creaky footsteps and moans and groans of lost souls. Then, run, if you dare, through the haunted cemetery as shadowy figures follow your every move. Hear the screams of tortured goblins and ghosts and watch out for the grim reaper who waits at every turn.

Spooktacular

Shiver and shake at the “Zoo-tackular” event on Oct. 23 and 24 at the Staten Island Zoo.

Be prepared to experience the spookiest Halloween festival ever.

Visit the Houses of Harry Potter, Alien Zoo, Alice in Wonderland and enjoy live shows or stroll through the life-size Candyland game.

Come dressed to spook at the annual costume contest.

Kids can visit with Buck The Talking Deer and participate in a game of “Family Feud.”

Pumpkin Carving Workshop

Choose your favorite gourd and learn the finer points of carving and decorating your pumpkin on Oct. 23 at the Greenbelt Nature Center.

Halloween in Richmond Town

For chills and thrills, have the whole family trick-or-treat like it’s 1959 at the historic village in Richmond Town on Oct. 29.
