Ice, Ice Baby!

“Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic,” Presented by Stonyfield YoKids Organic Yogurt, was like fire on ice! Audiences from age 1-100 will enjoy the show and everyone will feel like a kid at heart! I was completely mesmerized as over 50 of my favorite Disney friends from Mickey and Minnie to princesses and princes took the ice. There’s old school Disney like Pinocchio, Cinderella (my fave!), and Aladdin plus new favorites that I know and love like Nemo, Mulan, and Tiana. So grab your light up wands and mouse ears and get ready for a Disney dream come true!

Speaking of Tiana, I bonded with her before the show and got her amazing story. Princess Tiana gives us a simply show-stopping performance as she naturally transforms into Tiana as soon as the music starts. Originally from Brooklyn and after growing up on ice, now her reality is a dream come true: She is a Disney princess! “It’s very humbling where I started and where I am now,” she says. “It doesn’t happen overnight but happens over years…that feeling of finally having my hard work pay off is very rewarding.” DOI stars come from all walks of life, all over the globe, all stages of careers and are just like Disney fans. Want to be a Disney on Ice Star? Princess Tiana says to go for it! She did and now she’s home in Brooklyn as a shining star. “It’s wonderful coming home and having a personal connection to people watching you who knew you from the beginning. For regular Brooklynites to see that a girl from our area made it and can figure skate means the world,” she says.

Behind the scenes with Princess Tiana

The hard work on the part of the performers that Princess Tiana mentioned is part of what makes “Disney on Ice” so phenomenal! The show has incredible skating, music, and sing-alongs, costumes, scenery, special effects, and ice dance numbers. Featuring “Pinocchio,” “Finding Nemo,” a princess medley (with all my favorite prince and princesses), “Aladdin,” “Toy Story,” “Mulan,” “The Lion King,” and a special “Frozen” segment, my favorite Disney stories came to life on the ice. There was something for kids of all ages and the skating was breathtaking.

With over 30 of my family’s favorite Disney songs, we were singing and dancing along from start to finish. We started by showing off our moves at the Disney Magic of Healthy Living dance-along pre-show inspired by the Disney Healthy Living. It got everyone excited with dance moves to stay fit and active. Then Jiminy Cricket and Pinocchio showed us how dreams can come true. Next we were busy Finding Nemo on an underwater ice adventure. There were incredible fish costumes complete with googly eyes and flashy fins. Ribbons waved like we were under the sea. I was singing along as it really was joy to the fishes and the deep blue sea!

My personal favorite? The princess medley! It all started with Princess Belle and the Beast getting to know each other and soon after all the princesses I know and love were taking the ice with their prince. Belle, Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine Rapunzel, Tiana, and Snow White each came out and danced to their signature song which had me and everyone singing-along. It had me in awe! Plus, what a talent it is to learn to navigate skating in Disney costumes and princess dresses!

Anna and Elsa stole the show as “Frozen” made a natural transition to the ice. This story was told in the most detail, featuring all my favorite songs and characters from the movie from “Love Is an Open Door” to “Do You Want to Build a Snowman”! Of course, Olaf was there, too. There were sparks going off (literally) and Elsa even made it snow in the arena as she “Let It Go.”

IMG_5006The second act kicked off with Aladdin and too many genies on skates to count. There was synchronization, kick lines and more! The show continued with fan favorites Woody and Buzz from “Toy Story,” and many more!

Be prepared to be dazzled and have all your senses engaged: you’ll see so many amazing things, sing along to beautiful music and feel the effects as you’re transformed to a whole, new Disney world on ice.
