Free Lunchtime Entertainment and Picnic Space at Grand Central

Grand Central Terminal will host its second annual Life’s A Picnic in Grand Central this month. It features free indoor picnic space and live entertainment during the lunch and dinner hours.

During the last week of August, Grand Central Terminal will host its second annual Life’s A Picnic in Grand Central, which features free indoor public picnic space in Vanderbilt Hall, as well as live entertainment every day during lunch and dinner times.

Vanderbilt Hall will be decorated with Astroturf and picnic tables bedecked with the classic red-and-white gingham tablecloths. Visitors can relax in air-conditioned comfort with free Wi-Fi, and enjoy food they bring with them or purchase a treat from the Grand Central vendors, such as Jacques Torres Ice Cream, Central Market, Junior’s Bakery, Murray’s Cheese, Financier Patisserie.

Life’s A Picnic features live entertainment including cooking demonstrations with Grand Central chefs as well as performances from Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, Music Under New York, Big Apple Circus and Broadway Hour performances.

Executive Chef Cenobio Canalizo of Michael Jordan’s The Steak House N.Y.C. will debut the restaurant’s new Bar Burger, which spectators will have a chance to try; Chef hiro Isikawa of Shiro of Japan will demonstrate the basics of sushi making, and allow spectators to have a try at rolling; Dan Belmont, education and events manager of Murray’s Cheese will lead a mozzarella making class, and allow spectators to try the cheese; and Amy Tamulonis, a cake icer at Magnolia Bakery, will demonstrate some of the bakery’s most famous icing techniques, and allow spectators to enjoy mini cupcakes.

Broadway Hour will feature live performances from popular Broadway shows, such as Wicked, On The Town, Finding Neverland, Chicago, Something Roeent!, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder.

Life’s A Picnic will be open Monday-Thursday, Aug. 24-27, from 7am-7pm with demonstrations and performances from 11am-2pm and 4-7pm, and Friday, Aug. 28 from 7am-2pm, with performances from 11am-2pm.
