The holiday events continue this week with the Washington Square Park Tree Lighting, the American Theatre Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker, a Chanukah Festival at the 92nd Street Y, and much more. Enjoy!

Wednesday, December 10

The Washington Square Park Tree Lighting

Join Washington Square Park for their annual tree lighting ceremony this Wednesday. All ages are invited to sing holiday songs with the Rob Susman Brass Quartet and help Santa count down to the big moment when the Vermont pine tree will be illuminated with thousands of lights. Complimentary songbooks will be provided. Please arrive early.

Beginning Friday, December 12

American Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker

Families with children ages 4 and up shouldn’t miss the American Theatre Ballet’s production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, this will be the final engagement ever of this production’s five-year run in NYC. Led by Misty Copeland and a cast of more than 100 dancers, the classic tale of Clara’s journey to the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy will feature a spectacular growing Christmas tree, toy soldiers, snow, and much more. Tickets start at $20. Please note: Misty Copeland will not be performing in all performances. Runs through Sunday, December 21.

PUSH Physical Theatre is coming to Symphony Space! This innovative theater troupe specializes in acrobatic and theatrical storytelling for all ages. Their performances have been compared to a cross “between fine sculpture and the hit movie ‘The Matrix,’” as they challenge the boundaries of conventional theater with their physical, gravity-defying performances. Their exceptional storytelling will seize audiences’ minds and hearts. Tickets are $26 for adults and $16 for children.

Celebrate the Festival of Lights with a Chanukah Festival hosted by the 92Y! Families will enjoy seasonal activities including menorah making, winter crafts, live entertainment, a decorate-your-own sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts) workshop, and more. In the generous spirit of the season, there will also be opportunities to give back to the community, with a holiday gift drive and a holiday card-making session. Tickets start at $12.

Holiday Sing-A-Long with Dan Zanes & Friends
City Winery
11am-1pm
Who’s ready for a Dan Zanes sing-a-long?!  This year, Zanes is inviting some of his musical friends to the City Winery in SoHo for his fourth annual holiday show. The Grammy award-winning children’s singer blends folk, early rock, and English music hall numbers together to create his unique, kid-friendly songs that even grown-ups will love. Tickets are $20. Please arrive early to ensure a good view. Doors open at 10am.
