If you enjoy this issue, it has everything to do with the handiwork of my two editor colleagues Mia Weber and Lauren Vespoli, who executed much of it while my attention turned to the 2016 New York Baby Show. So I asked Mia, our deputy editor, to hijack this Editor’s Note and share her thoughts on the issue, which is wonderful. Enjoy! –Eric Messinger, Editor, emessinger@manhattanmedia.com
In the past, we’ve always done our big Ultimate Guide issue in the summer—but this year we’re doing things a little differently. Think of this issue as both your roadmap to summer fun as well as a handy resource to have on hand all year. From kids’ classes to city attractions in every borough, our Ultimate Guide special sections present a unique perspective on different aspects of raising kids in the city.
The best part of offering a streamlined version of our Ultimate Guide right now is that we’re also able offer a myriad of additional content. Certainly you’ve already caught a glimpse of the beautiful Bobbie Thomas and her adorable son on our cover, and we hope you’ll continue to be surprised and delighted by her as you read our feature. For us, Thomas was the perfect parent to grace the cover of our Ultimate Guide issue because she herself is something of an ultimate guide (or “Professional Girlfriend,” as she would say) to her fans, viewers, and readers. Whether she’s sharing fashion picks as the “TODAY” show’s style editor or championing female empowerment, surely most readers will find her to be a tremendous resource. Not to mention that we can’t wait to re-connect with her at this year’s New York Baby Show, where she’ll be kicking things off as the Show opens on May 14.
As we look forward to the season ahead (to summer afternoons with the whole family together, or perhaps to serene evenings while the kiddos are at summer camp) we’re also pleased to present a guide to NYC-area beaches, a roster of summer sports, and more.
Cheers to warmer days,
Mia Weber
