For her next adventure, Dora the Explorer is taking on New York City.
Dora was announced as the seventh NYC Family Ambassador by NYC & Company and Mayor Bill de Blasio together with Nickelodeon on Tuesday.
The NYC Family Ambassador program was designed with the intention of encouraging tourism in New York City among families.
“Our Family Ambassador campaign has increased family travel to NYC by more than 30 percent since it began, and we believe Spanish-speaking families and children will be inspired to explore NYC alongside Dora,” NYC & Company’s Director of Communications and External Affairs Dena Libner says. “The bilingual component of this particular campaign certainly strengthens NYC’s appeal with a specific audience.”
In conjunction with Dora’s appointment, NYC & Company is including both Spanish and English content in their family ambassador program for the first time.
This is the second time Dora has been chosen as the NYC Family Ambassador.
“Dora was hugely popular when we first partnered with Nickelodeon in 2010, and she’s only become more popular since,” Libner says. “She’s smart, brave and intrepid – just like so many NYC visitors!”
The campaign is being promoted through commercials, the hashtag “#nycgofamily,” digital media, and through other methods. Select hotels and cultural organizations will stock an Explore NYC with Dora activity book for children filled with facts, activities and interactive elements.
