Skin’s True Love

Have you tried the Clarisonic Mia, the electric cleansing brush that gently exfoliates while cleaning skin? You just may fall in love. I did.

I had been curious about the Clarisonic Mia for quite some time. Still prone to the occasional breakout, I’m always on the lookout for new products that can keep my skin clear and looking good. The company’s claims were impressive: sonic micro-massaging bristles gently clean skin, reducing the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles while improving its tone. —

I was skeptical; and with a price tag of $150 it was a significant purchase for a beauty product. After thinking it over for a few weeks, I finally decided to try it and headed to Sephora. The brush, it turned out, was easy to use and had some unique features. It’s waterproof so you can safely use it in the shower and it automatically shuts off after 60 seconds so you won’t run the risk of over scrubbing.

The Mia requires the use of a non-foaming cleanser – I use Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel – so the oscillating bristles can effectively reach the skin. When firmly pressing the brush against the face, the inner bristles massage skin, loosening dirt and oil trapped in pores. According to the company, the brush head uses a sonic frequency of more than 300-movements per second. In just 60 seconds, it removes 6x more makeup and 2x more dirt than manual cleansing.

After the first use, my skin felt softer. And after just a few days, I noticed my complexion looked significantly brighter and my skin’s tone appeared more even. I kept using the Mia twice a day, as directed in the instruction book, but my skin was starting to feel a little tight, so I switched to using it once a day instead. Within weeks my skin was clearer – with fewer breakouts – and looked healthier overall. It was so smooth and soft that my daughter even started to notice. (“How did your skin get so soft, mommy?” she would ask as she peppered my cheek with kisses over and over. To my delight, this happened for several days in a row. Clearly the Mia was working!)

And although the Mia’s brush head needs to be replaced every 3 months – at $25 each – the Mia is an investment worth making. It’s been about two months since I first started using the Mia and my skin looks and feels amazing.
