Weekend Planner June 24-26

You’ve waited for it all
year! With the official start of the summer season, we bet your youngsters are itching
for some fun in the sun. Celebrate the first weekend of summer by heading
outside, basking in the rays, and amusing the whole family with one (or more!)
of our picks for weekend adventure–from movies to exhibits to live performances. —

Kick off the weekend with a
visit to The Intrepid. They have just the treat for you with two FREE events
going on this weekend. Tonight, gather your own superheroes and watch
the first Spiderman
movie. (Don’t forget a blanket!) Head back on Saturday
with your future aviators for a special meet-and-greet with some amazing pilots (the very ones who flew the aircrafts on
display!).

On an even more magical note,
the MoMA is opening up its Disney Pixar vault to bring you a film exhibition of
features and short films. Pixar
Revisted at the MoMA
is a two-and-a-half week long exhibition beginning this
Saturday, so be the first in the line for all the animated fun. Check out when
your favorites are playing here. Make the opening
weekend ever more spectacular and catch the opening of Cars 2! Also opening
this weekend is the Berenstain
Bears Live! At the MMAC Theater.

Everyone’s favorite fuzzy family invites you to Bear Country for a one-of-a-kind live performance of three classics: The Berenstain Bears Learn About
Strangers
, The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food, and The Berenstain
Bears Trouble at School
.

If you’re debating between a
live performance, a day at the park, games or crafts then why not enjoy it all
in one jam-packed day? The Morris-Jumel Mansion located in the beautiful Roger Morris Park will be
hosting its very own Family
Day
. There the brood can amuse over colonial games, fabulous crafts and
nature tours. Also adding to the awesome factor this Saturday is the annual Children’s
Day at the South Street Seaport.
Join the festivities and watch as the historic
South Street Seaport transforms into New York’s largest family festival! Gordon from “Sesame Street” will host and perform twice with Elmo. The day is
sprinkled with more enchanting activities such as sing alongs, storytime, and
even fireworks!

Lastly, there is always
something going on in Central
Park. So while you’re
strolling through the scenic park, shuffle down to Harlem Meer for a family
fishing celebration
. Satisfy all your underwater interests; you can observe
their now flourishing aquatic habitat, go catch-and-release fishing, and even
build your very own fish. Make your way to the 72nd Street entrance to get the whole family active with Adventures
NYC
. Rejoice in the great outdoors
as you and your tots hike, bike, climb, and paddle their way across the five
boroughs. The celebration doesn’t stop there; the event boasts health and
fitness clinics, rock climbing walls, rocking live music, and a kids zone your
children will love.
