The Peoples Improv Theater, known as The PIT, launched a new birthday party division in January. The new division, Broadway Birthday Bashes, will host parties for kids as young as 3 years old.
Taking advantage of its new space, a 99-seat Off-Broadway theater, and its crew of talented individuals, The PIT is aiming to create a space where kids can be immersed in a comedy club while celebrating their big day.
Birthday party guests get exclusive access to the theater (full bar and coffee shop for the grown-ups), and the party-goers are treated to a one-of-a-kind musical created to reflect the birthday boy or girl’s favorite things.
The party packages are completely customizable and can be low-key or lavish. The basic package comes with soft drinks, pizza, clean up, and set up, along with the improv show. But Jo Firestone, birthday party coordinator, promises, “We can pull out the works if that’s what people want.” A few of the add-on options include the use of monitors and projectors to display images of the child all around the room, a cotton candy machine, an ice cream bar, and a personal videographer and photographer.
Firestone explains that The PIT is often seen as an adult-only venue, but she wants that to change. “We want to expand and become a theater for everybody,” she says. “We have kids and teen classes, so a birthday party division seemed like the next step.”
The PIT and Broadway Birthday Bashes are located at 123 East 24th Street.
