Kids Week 2012 At The Intrepid

With
a week-long break from school coming up thanks to the likes of George
Washington and Abraham Lincoln, you may be struggling to figure out how to occupy
your child’s time. Look no further than the Intrepid Museum’s Kids
Week 2012
from February 18-26 (10am-5pm daily). Each day brings
a different theme (and cool activities that come with), so pick the one that
tailors to your kiddo’s interest…or check them all out! —

Circus Weekend
Saturday, February 18 & Sunday, February 19

Kick
off President’s Day weekend big top-style with special guests from the Ringling
Bros. Circus. Kids can also unleash their inner clown by checking out the
Circus Zone to learn how to juggle and spin plates. On Saturday, families can enjoy
a special advanced screening of the animated movie, The Pirates! Band of Misfits at 2:30pm. Space is limited so be
sure to get there early!

Space and Aviation Day
Monday, February 20

Monday
promises to be out-of-this-world! Today’s special guest is Mario Runco (1pm), a NASA astronaut who will give a presentation on what it’s like to
live and work in space. Other activities include a space capsule storytime and
appearances by Star Wars characters. Kids
can also witness flight demos with real life hawks, owls and ravens at 12pm and 2pm.

Broadway Day
Tuesday, February 21

Just
in time to kick-off the new Broadway season, the Intrepid is going all out and
setting up interactive displays all around the museum from some of our favorite
stage shows like Mary Poppins, Sister Act and Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark. At 2pm, catch a musical
performance by the cast of Million Dollar
Quartet
. And don’t forget your camera—Spiderman
will be onsite at 2:45pm for a meet-and-greet.

Puppet Day
Wednesday, February 22

Today’s
events begin with face painting and paper bag puppet-making at 10am. To really wow you, the ultimate puppet celebrities from Sesame Street
Live will make appearances at both 12:30pm and 1pm. End your day with a sing-a-long by Puppetry Arts Theater and a themed
trivia game.

Sports Day
Thursday, February 23

Sure
to be a grand slam of a day. Members from the New York Rangers and the New York
Liberty and Knicks will lead exciting events like slap shot contests and street
team activities. At 1:30pm, tennis legend Patrick
McEnroe will offer free demos. And be sure to stick around for an impressive
helicopter landing on the flight deck by the United States Coast Guard.

Birthday Party Day
Friday, February 24

It’s
a day-long party and everyone is invited! Stop by the Coca-Cola Polar Bear
Bounce House and the Dave & Busters prize wheel to jumpstart the fun. The Gazillion Bubbles Show will start at
1pm, getting things nice and sudsy. Musical
performances by the Bari Koral Family Band will delight at 12pm and 2pm, along with the Voca
People at 3pm.

Safari Weekend
Saturday, February 25
and Sunday, February 26

The
final two days of Kids Week are sure to be wild! All weekend, enjoy displays from
the Bronx Zoo and the New York Aquarium. The United States Coast Guard will
also provide informative water pollution and safe-swimming demos. And don’t
miss your chance to see a real-life penguin on Saturday at 12pm and 2pm.

Battle in dungeons, search for relics, and make new friends in our one-of-a-kind Dungeons & Dragons workshop! </p> <p dir="ltr"> </p> <p dir="ltr">Public games meet once per week, with different groups every time. Private games meet 1 to 2 times per week with the same group of kids. A great way to introduce young children to D&D so they can eventually move onto the main game.</p>

Polaris Productions Theater Camp

<p>Kids will learn, rehearse, and perform the wonderful Maurice Sendak and Carole King musical, Really Rosie. For 10 weekdays, campers will take part in physical and vocal warm-ups and learn choreography, staging, and vocal parts. They’ll develop skills in acting, singing, character development, and more. This camp will ignite your child’s imagination and passion for performing, build their self-esteem, and help them form lasting friendships. They’ll have fun! At camp’s end, the kids will perform Really Rosie for family members and friends. Kids of all levels of experience, ages 8 through 13, are welcome to join.</p>
