Go! Tennis, a tennis program for kids in Queens, is adding a multi-sports program to is summer day camp. The sports camp will focus on tennis in the morning and campers can choose a different sport for the afternoon.
Go! Tennis, which previously only specialized in tennis, offered a multi-sports program for the first time at North Shore Indoor Sports when the facility opened last November in Bayside. This summer, Go! Tennis, which operates out of the North Shore Tennis and Racquets Club, will offer the multi-sports program during its summer camp.
The sports facility was built to accommodate tennis players and other athletes during the indoor season: mid-October through the end of April. It has six tennis courts, along with a turf area for other sports.
The summer camp will run from June 29-Aug. 28, 10am-3pm, Monday-Friday. Campers ages 4-18 will learn and hone tennis skills during the mornings at camp, and can choose from baseball, softball, soccer, flag football, and speed and agility training during the afternoons. Registration is now open for summer camp.
George Garland, owner of Go! Tennis, says it was a smart move to introduce sports other than tennis because the landscape of junior sports has changed. “With the advent of youth sports and so many kids being involved in team sports, we thought we’d give the kids an opportunity to play other sports, which we had not done in the past,” Garland says.
