Fleet Week 2011 kicks off
tomorrow at the Intrepid Museum (May 25- May 30). Tour docked military ships and honor men/women in
uniform as they visit the New York Harbor. —
Festivities begin this
Wednesday May 25, with the Parade of
Ships. Participating vessels will shimmy up the Hudson River and pass the official viewing stand deck on the Hudson River. Seasick? Stop by on Friday for particularly
playful performances by Broadway greats,
hosted by Tony Award Winner Greg Jbara of Billy
Elliot. Featured acts include: Jersey Boys, Chicago,
Mamma Mia, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Catch
Me If You Can, Rock of Ages, Anything Goes and Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles. And don’t miss jams by the U.S.
Coast Guard Band and the Statue of Liberty Army Band.

Cruise-ians! The fun continues Friday night as the museum kicks off its Intrepid Summer Movie Series with the
film Top Gun. Admission is free and
doors open at 7:30 pm.
Saturday’s events include
a special performance from the yellow brick road-worthy Broadway production,
Wicked! Or travel back in time with a performance by the swing-style all-female
vocal trio, The Manhattan Dolls. Little
sports fans will love to see the annual
athletic competition on Sunday afternoon, which includes a military tug of
war.
Cap off the weekend by
paying tribute at the Intrepid’s Memorial
Day Ceremony. The festivities include a ceremonial wreath laying, a Three
Volley Salute, the unfurling of a 100-foot American flag and a fly-over of
military aircrafts in the missing man formation—in memoriam of fallen pilots.
The U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue will perform a demonstration on Pier 86.
