Wendy Bellissimo Introduces A New Maternity Collection For Destination Maternity

There have been many phases in the career of designer Wendy Bellissimo, all of which have been extremely successful. This latest phase is no exception. Bellissimo says that raising her four daughters is what inspires many of her collections, which include children’s clothing and accessories, as well as home and nursery furniture and decor. It is no surprise then that these same children are what inspired her maternity collection for Destination Maternity (look for it in stores come September).

“As a mother of four, I have the highest appreciation for the evolution of a woman’s body during this transformational phase, and have always dreamed of creating a line of fashionable stand-out items that flatter an expecting woman but that includes special and meaningful pieces that will continue to be part of her rotation even after her baby is born,” Bellissimo says.

This idea is proven by the fact that both Bellissimo and an expecting mother modeled the clothes, which equally flattered both women.

For this collection, Bellissimo worked with Destination Maternity to create 26 pieces for moms-to-be. They incorporate cozy, versatile fabrics with Bellissimo’s signature boho-chic aesthetic to create a style that is both functional and fashion-forward.

While designing her maternity collection, Bellissimo not only focused on the versatility a maternity collection should have for the direct physical changes of pregnancy, but also the subtle changes that can make choosing outfits in the morning a near impossible task.

,kweiomkBecause women tend to run a little warm during pregnancy, many of the pieces are designed for layering, Bellisimo explains. For example, the maxi dress, which is soft and airy, can be worn alone or paired with one of the moto jackets. The leggings can easily be dressed up with a detailed tank or dressed down with one of the soft sweaters.

“Her style and keen eye for selecting pieces that can transform a wardrobe into a personal statement are apparent throughout the collection” adds Destination Maternity Corporation president Chris Daniel.

Bellissimo’s collection will be available this September at Destination Maternity stores.
