Weekend Planner: June 22-24

In the word’s of The Lion King‘s Rafiki, it’s time. It’s time for all families to get out of doors and enjoy the fabulous balmy weather that’s finally descended upon us. And this weekend, there’s no want of mega-festivals, parades, concerts and magic shows for kids and parents alike to enjoy. The only question is: how are you ever going to pick from all the choices? —

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

You know it’s summer when New Jersey’s State Fair Meadowlands throws open its festive gates. With a whopping 150-plus rides and attractions, free shows and curious bites like the donut burger, it’s the must-go fair of the season.

Feeling nostalgic? Join the Children’s Museum of the Arts in taking a look back at the history of art with its all-new "Art Forms" exhibit, showcasing 75 years of current and vintage children’s artwork.

FRIDAY

Calling all princesses: Moey’s Princess Ballat Bloomingdale’s is just for you! Celebrate the band’s new album with a free concert, face painting and balloon creations–and the chance to win your very own copy of thePrincess Revolution CD.

Alternatively, Junior Jam will be closing
the summer edition of Grosvenor House YMCA’s Jama Sing Song series with a big, rhythmic bang. You’ll hardly be able to believe that such energetic and engaging music can really be so educational.

SATURDAY-SUNDAY

It’s DIY galore at the 8th Annual Renegade Craft Fair, where kids can unleash their creativity in numerous interactive workshops and parents can shop handmade goods from today’s best crafters. Hint: bum some project ideas that you can do at home all summer!

SATURDAY

Say "ahoy" to summer fun at Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade, where you can dress up as your favorite sea creature and strut alongside antique cars and marching bands. The beachside affair celebrates all things sand, sea and salt air–now that’s what we call vacation.

For those who want to celebrate
this balmy season the old school way, the Brooklyn Kite Festival is the perfect place to pack a picnic, sit back and watch a sky of kites fly above the city skyline. Bring your own glider or purchase on-site.

Choose your own adventure in Central Park at the adrenaline-pumping Adventures NYC event, featuring thrills like rock climbing and kayaking that you didn’t even dream was possible in the city. Don’t forget to participate in the helmet giveaways, fitness clinics and more.

There’s something for everyone this weekend thanks to the Amazing Max’s magic show for kids with special needs. The custom performance features a quiet area where sensitive illusion lovers can take a break if they feel overwhelmed.

Have you heard the buzz?
Solar One’s "Pollinators and Food" Family Day is all about busy bees and how they help make some of our favorite foods. And while you might not have wings, you can still learn to make your own ice cream and healthy snacks using plants in the park.

The El Dia del Espanol Street Fair
takes the party to the streets in celebrating the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. There’s nothing like games, performances and food to explain the meaning of fiesta

Get starstruck at Alley Pond’s An Evening with the Stars gathering, where astronomer Mark Freilich treats the whole family to a breathtaking telescope viewing of sparkling constellations and marvelous deep space objects. You’ll never look up at the night sky the same way again.

SUNDAY

Ready, get set, go! It’s time to take the family for a run on Governors Island. Do the 10-meter dash and 1K if you’re a little runner; see if you can face the 10K loop if you’re all grown up.
