Experience Caribbean culture at the New York Caribbean Carnival—check out Friday’s Youth Fest or the Children’s  Carnival Parade on Saturday, plus food, vendors, and plenty of live music! Party on!  (Thursday-Monday)

Join hundreds of unicyclists at the NYC’s Unifest for three days of one-wheeled madness! Check out the 13-mile ride across Brooklyn, a One Wheel stage show, racing, unicycle sports like basketball and hockey, and opportunities for your family to try unicycle riding! Spin your wheel! (Friday-Sunday)

Whether you’re a seasoned student or just starting school for the first time, join the Brooklyn Children’s Museum in celebrating the back-to-school season with crafts, snacks, music, giveaways and more! Hit the books! (Friday)

SATURDAY

Celebrate Labor Day weekend with a taste of Americana at the Richmond County Fair. Adventurers can check out the monster zip line or the rock wall while mom and dad visit the beer garden–and there are more rides, attractions, contests and exhibits for everyone!  Take a ride!  (Saturday-Monday)

Come out to Riverside Park’s Pier 1 to enjoy some sweet beats!  Reggae, Soulful House, AfroBeat and Disco will be spun by some of North America’s best sound architects, brought to you by Musical Directions. Get your groove on! (Saturday)

Captain Underpants is swooping into the Scholastic Store for an afternoon of crafts, games and fun! He’ll be reading from his latest book, and then sticking around to party with the little ones. Up and away! (Saturday)

SUNDAY

Celebrate Brazilian Independence Day at the 30th Brazilian Day Parade and Festival! The parade kicks off at 10am, and the day will also feature performances by Brazilian musicians, Brazilian food stands, and arts and crafts for sale. Viva Brasil! (Sunday)

Catch the multicultural musical stylings of children’s band Hot Peas n’ Butter. The group, who’s had their music videos featured on Nick Jr., will perform at South Street Seaport.  Sing along!  (Sunday)

Cheer on New York’s sturdy ships at the Great North River Tugboat Race & Competition, which will also include a parade, historical exhibits and a spinach eating contest! Ahoy, captain!  (Sunday)

Kick back and relax this holiday weekend with a movie. Check out Chuck Jones’s only original animated feature film, based on Norton Juster’s classic novel, The Phantom Tollbooth, at The Museum of the Moving Image. Enjoy the show!  (Sunday)

MONDAY

Celebrate summer’s end with a marvelous party hosted by magician Omar Olusion in the Fantasy Forest at the Flushing Meadows Carousel. There will be DJ music, dance contests, games, and of course, magic by Omar! Abracadabra!  (Monday)

You don’t have to be in sitting in Arthur Ashe to score a great seat for this year’s US Open! Head to Brooklyn Bridge Park for an outdoor viewing party with a live stream of the matches, kids’ tennis courts, a photobooth and great giveaways. Game, set, match!  (Monday)

The Music Institute of Long Island

<p dir="ltr">Established in 1990, the Music Institute of Long Island (MILI) is a classical music school staffed by exceptional instructors from many of the most prestigious conservatories and graduate music schools in the United States and Europe. Long Island’s foremost musical academies, its instrumental programs include violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone and voice classes. MILI has been voted # 1 BEST MUSIC SCHOOL Consistently. </p> <p dir="ltr">They teach the Traditional, Suzuki, and ABRSM methods. Students participate in All-National, All-Eastern, All-State, youth orchestras, and score highly in NYSSMA and Royal Academy Music Festivals. First prize winners of competitions earn solos at Carnegie Hall and with orchestras. MILI offers Fall/Spring semesters plus Summer Sessions.
