April may bring showers, but it also brings holidays! Celebrate Easter and Earth Day in and near Brooklyn this month with fun things to do with the whole family, including an egg hunt on Staten Island and mud art in Crown Heights.

 

Easter

Easter Bunny Photos

WHEN: March 11–April 4: Monday-Thursday, 11am-8pm; Friday-Saturday, 10am-9pm; Sunday, 11am-8pm
WHERE: Kings Plaza Mall, 5100 Kings Plaza, Mill Basin
AGES: Kids of all ages
WHAT: The big furry guy will be available for photos on Level 2 above guest services. Stop by and say, “Cheese!”

Easter Egg Hunt

WHEN: April 4, 11am
WHERE: Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Ave., Staten Island
AGES: All
WHAT: Bring an egg carton to decorate in high-Victorian style, transforming it into a festive egg-holder which can hold up to six candy-filled eggs. All decorations are provided. Meet the Easter Bunny as you hunt for eggs in a Victorian town house decorated for spring. Refreshments will be served. Recommended for children ages 3 and older. Prepaid reservations are required.

Egg-Citing Eggs

WHEN: April 4-5, 11:30am and 2:30pm
WHERE: Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave., Crown Heights
AGES: 2-4
WHAT: Explore the egg-citing world of eggs and discover how families around the world celebrate the holiday known as Easter. Learn about animals that come from eggs, and examine a real bird’s nest from the museum’s collection. Make your own nest to take home.

NYC Easter Parade  

WHEN: April 5, 10am-4pm
WHERE: St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Fifth Avenue, between 49th and 57th streets, Midtown Manhattan
AGES: All
WHAT: Make like Judy Garland and Fred Astaire and strut down Fifth Avenue in your Sunday best in this NYC tradition that dates back to the 1800s. Every year New Yorkers show off their Easter bonnets in this parade that marches north on Fifth Avenue, starting at 49th Street. Come and watch, or even bring your own bonnet. 
WANT TO GO? FREE. The best place to watch is from the area around St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Earth Day

Earth Day Crafts: Mud Art

WHEN: April 6, 11:30am and 2:30pm
WHERE: Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave., Crown Heights
AGES: 2-4
WHAT: What is the Earth made of? Look and touch as you examine the rocks, sand, clay, and soil that cover our “Great Mother.” Create a mud painting to take home.

Earth Day at Prospect Park

WHERE: Prospect Park Audubon Center, Lincoln Road and Ocean Avenue, Flatbush

WHAT: Join the Prospect Park Alliance at the Audubon Center for its annual Earth Day celebration with activities including fishing lessons, getting face-to-face with real birds of prey, learning how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, and making instruments out of recycled materials.
