Stromboli Time

I am hear to tell you the good news: yes, you can roll up pizza dough and call it dinner. How? Stuff it with some cheeses, meats and vegetables, serve it with a side of dipping sauce and you, my friends, have a stromboli! My friend Nicole first told me of her method for making this family favorite and I knew she was on to something. The first time I made it I used my own homemade pizza dough recipe, but sometimes I also use the regular store-bought dough it works just fine, too. Here is our method for weeknight stromboli, how do you take it? —

INGREDIENTS

1 ball fresh store bought pizza dough
1 large package of pepperoni
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1 egg
1 teaspoon water
Marinara sauce for dipping

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Roll out
the pizza dough to a roughly 13×9 rectangle and place on a lightly oiled baking
sheet.

2. Layer the pepperoni onto the dough,
leaving a 1-inch border around the dough. Layer the pepperoni as needed so they
all fit. Scatter the cheese on top.

3. Whisk the egg and water together
with a fork and brush the egg wash all along the border of the pizza dough.
Roll up the dough lengthwise and press the seam into the dough at the end.
Place the stromboli seam side down on the cookie sheet. Brush the tops with the
remaining egg wash.

4. Bake it for about 20, or until the
top is golden brown. Allow to cool slightly, slice into 1-inch rounds and
serving with dipping sauce.
