Seedlings Academic Playschool, an intimate, homelike preschool for children in Brooklyn Heights, prides itself on small group learning. The homelike play and learning environment allows for children to have a positive first-time experience in a preschool setting. The curriculum, which includes yoga, art, and reading, is designed to foster growth in speech, language, and fine motor skills.
Brooklyn became home to Seedlings Academic Playschool, a small preschool aimed at creating a customized learning environment for children within an intimate setting, in October. Appropriate for children ages 2 to 4, the privately run preschool offers a hands-on approach with a 4-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio.
“It was really important for us to have a really tiny, intimate type of environment,” says Alice Chiu, co-founder of Seedlings Academy Playschool. The three-hour morning and afternoon programs are offered for each age group with no more than eight children per session, and because of the homelike environment, parents feel secure leaving their children for the day. “It’s located on the ground floor of a little brownstone building, and you come in and see a living room…it’s not scary at all for a child’s very first experience outside the home,” Chiu adds.
The curriculum is designed to foster speech, language, physical, and fine motor skills development. Children enjoy activities such as singing, reading, yoga, and art. There is currently a waiting list for the September 2013 school year, but parents are encouraged to call and arrange a tour for their child.
