The Bija Project is hosting their second installment of Baby&Soul on Saturday, May 4 from 4-7pm. Baby&Soul is a dance party open to everyone, hosted by a community and collective of music lovers, across class differences, inclusive of all ages, genders, and races. The party takes place at the school’s Clinton Hill location at 900 Fulton St.
Why a dance party? Bija’s roots are in movement arts and for the past 14 years, all Bija programs have included incorporating the work of artists and musicians into the curriculum. “When we were thinking about how to raise money for our scholarship fund, we wanted to create events in the spirit of our mission.” says Founder Lauren Maples. “This meant fundraisers that were inclusive of our community, created opportunities for connection, and helped people feel energized and positive. Plus we wanted to do something affordable that wouldn’t prevent people from getting involved.”
The school aims to raise $5,000 to provide reduced-cost tuition to one preschooler for the 2019-2020 school year. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Want at the door; the suggested donation is $10 per person, but this shouldn’t be a limitation. All are welcome.
The party includes a donation bar and snacks. Donations are also welcome via Venmo @bijafund. Early bird tickets are available for online purchase now.
