Recently my husband had to travel for work, so I was left alone with my son. Normally, I am able to luxuriate in a shower every morning while Dad is on kid-duty, but this time I had to move fast to make myself look and smell presentable…often sans bathing. If you have a tight schedule that sometimes leaves you shower-less, here are five quick tips for faking it. Investing a few precious moments in the morning to look and feel your best is worth it–even it if means your baby is wreaking havoc in the bathroom while you’re at it!
Hair. To remedy oily hair without actually washing it, I use ($7.50), which you spray on, leave for a few minutes, then brush through. It soaks up any oils while adding volume to your hair. It does leave a bit of a white cast, but you can easily make that disappear by brushing a few times. I love that the product smells nice and makes greasy hair look almost like it’s been washed! I also use John Freida’s dry shampoo spray, ($5.50). It’s the same concept only without the emphasis on natural ingredients.%uFFFD
Skin. Since I do a deep face cleanse at night, when I’m rushing in the morning, I use a couple of makeup wipes to simulate an actual face wash. Recently I used Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes ($4.99 for a pack of 25). They are a UK-based brand formulated for sensitive skin and work quite well.
Scent. A body mist or perfume can help a mom in a rush feel a bit fresher. Body sprays can be found anywhere and come in a variety of scents from fruity to flowery to sugary. In keeping with my obsession, I use ($5), which is nice for days when you want a little scent, but not too much.
Eyes. If the eyes are the window to one’s soul, then mine offer one tired, dark and line-encrusted view! This is one aspect of my beauty routine I make sure to take a little extra care with. Most days I use eye cream, two concealers, powder and anything else to make me look more awake than I feel–even when I have almost no time to get ready. One product in particular I recommend is Tarte EmphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener ($18), a mini, flesh-colored eye pencil for lining your inner eye. It’s not an “essential” product–and it takes a little extra effort to apply–but on those days I use it, I love the effect. It instantly opens and brightens your eyes and minimizes any redness. Yes, please!
Makeup. Even when I’m in a rush, I never go without a little makeup. Before I’m out the door, I slap on my one-step Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45, mascara, and lipstick. For tips on how to apply makeup in a hurry—and recommendations on which products to use–see my Makeup Lessons post.
