The Right Rx
It’s hard to get kids to take their medicine because of the awful taste, right? Not necessarily! The new Kids Rx, in Park Slope, specializes in compounding medication, and can create a formulation in one of 800 flavors, including marshmallow, cherry, chocolate, and peanut butter. They can have it prepared as a tablet, capsule, liquid, ice pop, trans dermal gel (for those who can’t swallow), lollipop or Jell-O dose, and make it sugarless, carbohydrate-free, alcohol-free, dye-free and preservative-free.
Prescriptions — even for hard-to-find and discontinued products — can be filled for the entire family (including pets!), with counseling and follow-up available. While parents wait for prescriptions, they can browse the shop’s assortment of household wares, hair and skin products, baby care goods, vitamins, homeopathics, and gift baskets; kids can play in the waiting area with Thomas the Tank Engine or watch the trains go overhead. Orders and refills can be placed online or over the phone and delivered free to most areas in Brooklyn; all insurance plans are accepted.
Kids Rx has already held talks for parents on a variety of topics, such as over-the-counter medicines and postnatal care, with more to come in the future. Through the summer, they are giving away a first aid kit that fits in strollers; just come in and register your family.
Kids Rx open Monday-Friday 8:30am-7pm and Saturday 8:30am-5pm. Located at 189 7th Avenue (corner of 2nd Street), in the rear of the health and beauty store, Pure Essentials. 718-369-6100; www.kidsrx.com.
