Lil Chameleon, a children’s resale boutique located in Tuckahoe, is offering a new summer drop-off camp for children ages 3 to 6.
Camp starts June 25 and is available for eight weeks throughout the summer. Each week-long session runs Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. While art is the main focus of the program, other activities include movement and outdoor play.
Children will create crafts that follow a specific theme for the week, such as Space & Unicorn Magic, Princesses and Pirates and Sports Stars. Part of the curriculum is designed to help children get comfortable with individual expression, team work, and problem solving, according to CC Benitez, boutique owner and artist.
“Sometimes, lessons will be all about you, where children will create crafts about themselves to warm them up for group work,” Benitez said. “The next day they’ll get to share it with everybody so that they’re getting comfortable presenting themselves and speaking in a group.”
Each day is only two and a half hours, so the program also serves as a way for youngsters to experience being away from their parents for a short period of time, according to Benitez.
“It’s a great opportunity for children to gain independence through a little bit of time outside the home,” she said. “It also gives parents a nice break in the morning if the are stay-at-home parents or would like some enrichment for their children to engage in.”
Each day of camp, children will receive an organic snack that includes protein, fresh fruit and 2 percent milk.
Lil Chameleon opened last year and is designed to be a community-minded space for families to buy, sell and trade children’s items. The 1,200-square-foot boutique, has a separate area for a self-serve cafe and activity room where programs take place. It also offers a variety of party packages that include guest-list management, cupcakes, beverages of juice, milk or chocolate milk boxes, paper goods and eco-bamboo utensils.
