Apartments usually aren’t spacious enough for rockin’ drum sets and sizable playrooms—and even if they were, neighbors would undoubtedly have their complaints. The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is soon opening a new play space to address just that issue, called Frolic! The rock ‘n’ roll themed space tailored for 0-5 year olds focuses on the development of young children in social, emotional and physical regards by means of a musical outlet. Research shows that music plays a vital role in the education of children, and CMOM is hopping on board to create a well-equipped playroom for young’uns, where they can both play and learn about music through interactive activities.
Frolic!, which opens June 5, features innovative pieces like a tongue slide inspired by the Rolling Stones, an old fashioned and paint-splattered Volkswagen minivan, a ticket booth at the entrance of a small stage, and a music wall that plays various videos and songs. Kids will be sure to dance to the rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack, and will certainly enjoy the climbable foam butterflies and mushrooms that are scattered around the 1500-square-ft space.
Frolic! comes furnished with its own summer programming schedule great for little ones. Daily workshops, which are free with admission, revolve around music, movement, and storytelling. Frolic! also hosts Saturday Summer Concert Series that feature the hottest kiddie musicians. Baby classes at the play space are available for 6-24 month olds to jam out with their parents to music from around the world. Have your kids show off their new favorite rock ‘n’ roll play space to their friends and host a birthday party at Frolic!, where puppets, parachutes, instruments, and professional live performers will make their big day even more special.
Prepare to get your groove on, engage in music, and be sure to attend the opening of Frolic! at CMOM this Friday; the kiddies are certain to go wild and have fun as they transform into tiny rock stars.
