Labor Day Weekend Essentials

From BBQs to boat trips to block parties, Labor Day weekend is famous for being the last hurrah of summer–a chance for families and friends to come together for fun, food and festivity before the weather begins to shift to the chillier side…and of course, the last fashionably-acceptable occasions to wear a crisp white ensemble before next May!

In order to help you take full advantage of the precious holiday weekend, we’ve compiled our top picks for a stylish, sporty, and downright splendid Labor Day!

For the lawn: Outdoor games are a staple of summer,  so gather the gang for a Labor Day badminton tournament! While colorful rackets and birdies are a dime a dozen, we guarantee you’ll get more than a few grins when you break out Hello Kitty’s Badminton Set for juniors! Signature Sanrio cuteness manifests in pretty pink badminton gear that is sure to delight. $25.99, sanrio.com

For the grill: Late August is the perfect time to enjoy fresh corn – be it grilled, boiled, or roasted. However, we know how messy corn-on-the-cob can be–which is precisely why we recommend Gama-Go’s Unicorn Corn Holders (yes, the corn is skewered on the horn…it’s adorable). These nifty helpers encourage even picky kids to eat up…because who can possibly resist the whimsy of a smiling unicorn as the sun sets warmly beneath the horizon? $7.50 for a set of 4, casa.com

For an adventure: On every family’s must-list for the summer’s last long weekend should be some sort of outdoor adventure. Whether you’re lucky enough to have boat access for a leisurely day at sea or you’re just taking a trip to an undiscovered corner of the park, a picnic is a great way to keep outdoor playtime feeling fun. And of course, a modern twist on the picnic basket and blanket are essential! We love Skip Hop’s Central Park outdoor blanket & cooler bag combo. It’s a picnic bag that unfolds into a blanket to sit on! We love this product so much that we’re actually giving one away to a lucky reader–click here to enter! $45, skiphop.com

For the tennis pro: In honor of both Labor Day and the US Open, dress your young athlete in sporty tennis whites from Lacoste. The material of the Boys’ Super Dry Stripe Polo is perfect for having fun outdoors, and the classic look of Lacoste will ensure a great turnout in any family photo ops from the day. $60, lacoste.com

For the girly girl: Savor the chance to dress your tiny prepster in a super-cute white dress to close the summer season in style. Mimivail’s Crisp White Pique Sundress combines the classic color pairing of white and kelly green with an a-line silhouette that just screams “too cute.” $125, mimivail.com
