There’s a lullaby I love about as much as any song in the universe, and I’m pleased to share it with you and report that its singer-songwriter has a new CD out as well. Care to guess?
I originally discovered the song as background music on a children’s photographer’s website. With a little research, I learned that its creator is a singer-songwriter from San Francisco named Frances England. This is remarkable to me: According to her website, England “originally created her debut CD, “Fascinating Creatures,” as a fundraiser for her son’s preschool and never thought that anyone outside of her own circle of family and friends would hear it.”
The song I love is on that debut album. It’s called “This Little Star of Mine.” I found a You Tube video made by a mom who, evidently, feels the same way about the song that I do. Her photos of her child’s first year are pretty great, too. Enjoy it.
As an editor of a magazine for parents, and as a parents myself, I hear a ton of kids music. “This Little Star Of Mine” may well be my favorite lullaby ever. What’s yours?
More good tidings: With “Fascinating Creatures,” England established herself as a parent and child favorite on the circuit of singer-songwriters devoted creating music for kids. And she’ll be releasing her fourth album, “Blink of an Eye,” in August. I’ll remind you when it comes out. In the mean time, if you like “This Little Star of Mine,” I recommend you rummage around her website for other goodies. You can sample her songs from previous albums, and she’s also posted a musical drawing app she helped create and a sing-along songbook, which comes with musical e-cards from Frances.
Fun stuff to share with you kids, while you, secretly or not so secretly, cherish her music along with them.
