If you’re a busy mom who’s fallen into a fashion rut, fall is a great time to rethink your style. All you need are a few quick updates. Here are five changes any mom can make to her wardrobe and makeup routine to look and feel great this season!
Go For Stripes. I was recently inspired by this photo of Demi Moore. Stripes are classic, cool, easy to wear, and you can find them everywhere. Gap and Old Navy always have a selection of great striped pieces. I grabbed this one (pictured) from Gap’s clearance section
Try Moto Jeans. Updating your jeans is another easy and fun thing to do. Moto Jeans, (jeans with motorcycle-inspired details) are big this fall and they are everywhere: Target, American Eagle and H&M have great, inexpensive versions. For trendier pieces like this I like to go cheap because most likely I won’t be wearing them that long. American Eagle also makes a terrific high-rise skinny jean, perfect for moms because it sucks in your tummy. A distressed boyfriend jean is also a comfy jean to try this fall like these from the Gap. Bonus tip: add a leather or faux leather jacket (like this one) and black beanie (like this one) and you have my complete fall uniform!
Update Your Shoes. For overworked feet, comfort and ease is a must, as well as a splash of style. This fall I have been switching between old bronze Sven clogs, one of my many pairs of booties, and this newest acquisition from Nike. I think these shoes by Nike are the fashion version of a running shoe–all black and super-comfy. I wear them at my thrice-weekly bootcamp class as well as to work and with my son. I wore them exclusively at the end of September on a family trip to California and they were perfect. An added bonus: as my pal Corinne pointed out, they are slenderizing on the foot!
Look Alive In The Eyes. Well-documented throughout my blog posts is my under eye area problem (the trifecta: puffiness, dark circles, and the dreaded crepe-y-ness!). I will go to all ends to look awake when I feel like a mom zombie (mombie!?). This conealer has my name written all over it. Fancy and chic and packed with La Mer’s famed seaweed-derived magical ingredients, it conceals, treats and brightens the under-eye area and is nothing short of a miracle product (with a $70 price tag, it better be!). It also contains SPF 25, which is essential for protecting against future damage. Slap this on along with some lip product (see below), and you are good to go!
Love Your Lips. Did you know your lips lose color as you age? So adding a tinted balm or glossy lipstick instantly makes you look younger! Who wouldn’t want that? And if you are wearing little or no makeup, a splash of color on the lips also helps you look more awake and better dressed overall. This Tom Ford Lip Shine is a high-end purchase, but if you grab it out of your diaper bag, I promise it instantly makes you look like one bad-ass momma! If you don’t want the steep price tag, check out the drugstore: Maybelline, and all have affordable versions. Pro-tip: If you apply lipstick to your lips and then work in the lipstick with your finger, you can rub the excess lipstick onto your cheeks for instant blush! It’s a two-in-one solution (perfect for moms–you can do it on-the-go, in the car, etc.) and it also helps give your face a bright and shiny glow. Add a touch of either eyeliner or mascara to define your eyes and you are even more ready! So easy!
