Hope everyone had a happy and safe Fourth of July! The summer continues to heat up with a sizzlin’ selection of indoor and outdoor events. On Saturday, museum goers can head to the Whitney Museum for a Summer Family Day and Trekkies can fly over to the Intrepid Sea, Air, Space Museum for the opening of a “Star Trek” exhibition. Also beginning on Saturday, gamers can ferry over to Governors Island for Come Out & Play Family Day. Sunday’s festivities will include Bastille Day along 60th Street and SummerStage Family Day in Central Park. Enjoy!

“Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience” Exhibit
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

“Star Trek” fans look no further – we’ve got the perfect event for you! Marking the first stop on a pending US tour, “The Starfleet Academy Experience” is landing in NYC at the Intrepid Museum. See props and costumes on display from the TV show, experience interactive activities based on the “Star Trek” series during the Intrepid’s Space & Science Festival on July 14-17, attend movie nights and even stay overnight with “Star Trek”-themed Operation Slumbers! Beam over to the Intrepid’s website for more details and most important of all, live long and prosper! Runs through Monday, October 31. Free with museum admission.

Whitney Kids Summer Family Day

Grab the kids and gain special access to the Whitney during this early morning celebration for kids and families! Explore the current “Stuart Davis: In Full Swing” exhibit, and enjoy tours, art-making, and special performances by Jazz at Lincoln Center. Free with museum admission. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.

Come Out & Play Family Day
Governors Island
11am-4pm
The Come Out & Play Festival, which is dedicated to the playing of street games, is hosting a free Family Day on Governors Island. All games revolve around this year’s theme: time travel. Play games from the past, present, and future during this afternoon of outdoor family fun and competition! Games will run multiple times throughout the day. This event is free.

Enjoy an afternoon of French food, culture and entertainment in celebration of Bastille Day during this unique Manhattan street fair! Take a trip to East 60th Street, between Lexington and 5th Avenues on Sunday to experience everything the French have to offer. While kids taste delicious French delicacies like crêpes, éclairs, macaroons and more, parents can sample a selection of cheeses, beers and cocktails. Plus, watch dance and live musical performances, take part in face painting, arts and crafts and much more – guaranteed fun for the entire family! Admission is free.

SummerStage Family Day
Central Park

Spend your Sunday afternoon in Central Park! SummerStage Family Day will feature performances galore from top musicians, dancers, and entertainers. Scheduled performers include Justin & The Not Ready For Naptime Players, Mister G, the Broadway cast of “Finding Neverland,” dance troupe Purelements, and the comedic juggling act of the Gizmo Guys. This event is free.

<div>Treehouse Shakers’ Branching OUT After-School program is for ages 12-14. This awarded program is for young people who identify as LGBTQIA+, or are seeking to become better allies. Branching OUT centers on discovering and exploring one’s story and identity through an intentionally artist-led format. During our community-based program, young people will explore and reflect on their own story to create a larger, more meaningful experience, while gaining self-empowerment and gathering with like-minded peers. Through the guidance of our awarded teaching artists, young people will create narratives that will be turned into podcasts, dances, songs or poetry. </div> <div> </div> <div>Young people have the opportunity to learn new art forms, work with professional artists, while building a meaningful community.</div>
