Event Recap: Ponycon NYC 2016

pony2Ponycon is an event like no other– everyone who was anyone in the world of My Little Pony was there! From the creators of My Little Pony to all the little people behind the stories and big people behind voices of my favorite ponies, like Rainbow Dash, there were herds of passionate pony people!

What exactly is Ponycon? Great question. I learned that Ponycon is a global gathering of fans and friends to celebrate all things Pony. The experts told me:Ponycon brings the My Little Pony fan community together to celebrate the philosophy of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic along with the creative energy of New York City.” There were interactive experiences for fans of all ages, including, hands-on activities, art, exhibitions, exclusives, workshops, lectures, panels, games, musical performances, sneak peeks, vendors, fashion, dancing, fun, and many more surprises!

A popular spot for the littlest ponies was the Ponycon makeover spa complete with colorful pony themed hair extensions, barrettes, and clips. You could choose a pony style off the picture menu and use the color chart to get made up like your favorite character. Or you could even make your own custom pony creation. They said you could “Get a new ‘do! A temp tattoo! Cutie mark and fantasy face painting! Pony ears and fairy crowns, glitter and glam!” It was so pony spa-tacular!

There were also lots of fun, family activities like learning how to draw a pony, story times, concerts and sing-alongs, sew your own plush and even a pony fashion show! My favorite family craft activities were making mini perler ponies and creating my own pet rock at Maud’s Rock Farm. I painted mine blue with rainbow extensions—it was a Rainbow Dash rock!

pony3And it was so cool to see all the pony presents from stuffed animals to art and custom made clothing to personalized pony everything! Plus, I was able to meet Ponycon’s NYC mascots: Cabbie, Liberty and Bowtie. I loved the NYC-themed ponies. They were so cute! And you could even take a stuffed animal one home. Giddy up!

There was a full schedule of pony time fun but a lot of the highlights were way past my bedtime. I can’t wait until I’m not such a little pony and can go to the VIP Party, RGB Laser Show & EQ Dance Party and the Celebrity Banquet with the Stars. Next time for sure! Until then, join the colorful world of My Little Pony at Ponycon, and as Celestia said to Twilight, “make some friends!”
