Saturday, a mix of parents, children, fashionistas, and more crowded the benches to see Bonnie Young’s Fall 2014 collection. As part of petitePARADE, a bi-annual event also known as Kids Fashion Week, the runway show featured looks for both teens and tweens, incorporating mohair, metallic fabrics, and faux furs into seasonable garments.
The show opened with twin hosts Tristin and Tyler, two well-known trendsetters on New York’s kiddie fashion scene who made some jokes in a very adorable manner. Then, lights dimmed as little models strutted their stuff down the catwalk.
Bonnie Young incorporated a handful of classic, well-tailored pieces like blazers, jackets, and skirts, but she also took a few chances. A couple of unique pieces included a plaid kilt and the Alyx Dress, which featured a high-low skirt hem made from a strange, space-like material.
Some of New York Family’s personal favorites were the Madeline Dress, a champagne-colored metallic piece with a collar and mini skirt; a coated, double-breasted coat in plaid; and a Brocade Boy’s Blazer (for girls). The show ended on a sweet note when Bonnie Young stepped out on the runway with her kids. In the past, the designer has listed her children as a major influence on her collections, and they even modeled in the show!
