Etsy Finds

Whether you’re expecting your fist baby or doing a redesign on an already existing nursery, there’s one place you definitely want to go to find some one-of-a-kind art: Etsy. The online craft community features a huge amount of artists selling handmade children’s decor at very reasonable prices. You can find everything from wall posters to block letters to mobiles in designs ranging from classic to modern. When I was decorating my son’s room I spent countless hours browsing the site. Here are some of my favorite shops that helped me design a room that both he and I love to be in. If you have a favorite shop or two, please do share!

Eco-Friendly Wall Art. I love mom and artist Rebecca Peragine, who creates the most colorful and whimsical posters (see photo at top). Each design embodies “creative recycling” in that she starts out with a pile of scrap papers which she ultimately pieces together to create a work of art. Her posters include illustrations of animals (I love her bird designs), maps, the alphabet, and much more. The art is inspired by her passion for teaching kids eco-consciousness and the beauty of different world cultures. Her shop often features sales: right now it’s buy 2 get 1 free on many items.

Whimsical Mobiles. The mom behind the Etsy shop Dosta Baby made her first mobile for her daughter, and since then sees “every scrap of paper as a potential wheel.” The mobiles feature lots of earth tones and modern graphics sure to catch baby’s eye. Look for the mobiles with a “dots” theme, which are especially cute. They come in a variety of colors to match any nursery.

Cool Wall Decals. The colorful and modern vinyl wall decals available at Six Under a Tree Studio is a quick way to spruce up any nursery. They are super easy to apply and come in lots of designs –animals, flowers, trees, cars, and more. You can even ask them to customize decals for if you don’t see what you want. Apply them to walls or doors, windows, furniture, etc.

Alphabet and Number Posters. There are lots of artists making these, but I love the illustrations available at Sea Urchin Studio, which features the work of a NYC-based artist. They come in both pastels and primary colors to suit your style. The “Alligator to Zebra poster” would look great in any nursery. Or choose single letter posters to spell out your child’s name.

Growth Charts. This is a unique addition to a nursery and there are a lot of creative designs available. PetiteLemon offers canvas growth charts you hang on the wall and which can be personalized. with your child’s name. Designs include owls, outer space, dinosaurs, dots, and more.
