Eglevsky Ballet will be in-residence at a second location, the Garden City Dance Studio, for the 2019-2020 season. This satellite studio will expand Eglevsky Ballet’s educational outreach beyond their original location in Beth Page. With quality teachers, attention to detail, and performance opportunities, Eglevsky Ballet hopes to fill the need for quality classical ballet training throughout Long Island.
“Dance develops so many aspects of a child’s social, physical and mental development. Social development, being together and working as a team. Mental development, learning steps, retaining information and being able to reproduce choreography. Cognitive development, to be able to problem solve,” says artistic director of Eglevsky Ballet, Maurice Curry.
The Garden City Dance Studio location will employ the same nationally-recognized graded curriculum at the Bethpage location. Dancers are placed by ability, not by age, and are advanced to the next level at the discretion of the faculty.
Dancers as young as 3 years old may join the First Steps program, designed to bring out the child’s natural instinct for movement, coordination, sharing and more. The next levels include Kinderdance Division, where the beginning elements of class structure and classical form are nurtured, and Pre-Ballet, where material is geared towards developing the skills needed for the graded level curriculum. There are nine graded levels in the Eglevsky Ballet School, ranging from beginners through perfecting technique and artistry.
Auditions for placement will be held for two days before the start of each semester, where instructors will group dancers by age and then place them into classes based on ability.
Eglevsky Ballet is looking for male dancers who want to enhance their dance training. It will be rewarding 10 full scholarships to aspiring male dancers ages 10-18 to receive ballet training with professional faculty and resident staff.
Eglevsky Ballet hosts in-studio showcases for their dancers and a workshop theater performance in the Spring. It will also be performing the Nutcracker at the Tilles Center from December 14-15.
