A spate of very interesting–and somewhat conflicting–articles have appeared
lately on the subject of how parenting impacts one’s
happiness.%uFFFDWe recommend that you read all three (sorry!) as a
provocative package that will have you reflecting on your own journey as a
parent. —A recent New York Magazine cover
story put the complicated matter this way:
“All Joy And No Fun: Why
Parents Hate Parenting.” In response, the
publisher of Babble.com, who we featured on our cover
last February,%uFFFD wrote a kind of personal
essay entitled, “Yes, Kids Make Us
Happier,” which referenced their own
interesting study of the topic. We also recommend an article in the Wall
Street Journal arguing the case for having
more children, fueled by some studies indicating that good parenting is less
work and more fun than people think.
