Coney Island’s Luna Park and Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park Open This Weekend

UPDATED, March 18, 5:42pm: Though Luna Park will be opening this weekend, the opening ceremony has been rescheduled for March 26 due to inclement weather, according to DNAInfo. The free 100 Cyclone rides and egg creams have been postponed to March 26 as well. “Our mission is to provide the most enjoyable, fun and safe experience for Luna Park’s patrons,” a statement from Luna Park reads. “With the impending Nor’easter, and the snow it is expected to bring to our area, we did not feel we could fulfill this goal by having our 2016 ceremony this Sunday.”

Coney Island’s Luna Park will officially be open for the season on Sunday, March 20th.

The famous Wonder Wheel will be celebrating its 96th anniversary and as a bonus, free rides will be offered to the first 96 people in line. As an added bonus, the first 100 people in line to ride the Cyclone will also be treated to a free ride.

On opening day park owners, Dennis and Steve Vourderis, will celebrate with the 31st annual “Blessing of the Rides.” There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and rides will open immediately after, at 11:30am.

In addition to the rides at Luna Park, there’s tons of other stuff for families to explore. Check out a Brooklyn Cyclones game when the season starts in June or head to the New York Aquarium to check out the sharks and turtles. There are also great places to eat; grab a hot dog at Nathan’s or a slice of pizza at Totonno’s

Luna Park is located at 1000 Surf Avenue in Brooklyn. For more information call or visit the Luna Park website, lunaparknyc.com.
