A Day At Battery Park

Battery Park City Parks, located on the southern tip of Manhattan, spans roughly 36 beautiful acres and is comprised of parks, gardens, playing fields, plazas, playgrounds and walkways. Families enjoy visiting the park during the day to catch some sun or in the evening to admire the city skyline. With so much to see and do at this vibrant park, we thought it would be helpful to highlight a few “can’t miss” family activities:

Nelson A. Rockefeller Park: This park’s claim to fame is the pedal-driven merry-go-round. Take a break from spinning and try to spot some animals as you stroll through the sculpture garden. Dip your feet into the wading pool while your kids run through the elephant and hippo sprinklers, or borrow some ping pong balls from the Park House and play a game or two. If your kids aren’t exhausted yet, shoot some hoops on the basketball court.

Teardrop Park North:
This playground includes the magnificent “Ice Wall,” where children can play in natural sprinklers and climb on large rocks. Kids will love sliding down the mega-slide, making sandcastles in the sandbox, reading books on the rock seats, and finding naturalistic paintings scattered around the park. Don’t forget your bathing suit!

The Esplanade:
The Esplanade runs the entire length of Battery Park City and affords beautiful views of The Hudson River, New York Harbor, Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty and The Jersey Shoreline. Walk around and examine the various unique sculptures and public art installations.

Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Park:
Enjoy wandering the beautifully manicured lawns and gardens. Take a seat on a bench and enjoy a perfect view of the harbor.
