Tilt Kids Festival
March 4-April 3 [Ages vary by event] The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Institute Alliance Française are hosting the first-ever Tilt Kids Festival this month! This cultural festival for families will highlight international works as well as pieces specially commissioned for the festival. In partnership with venues throughout the city, including the Museum of Food and Drink, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, the fest will offer philosophy, music, circus, magic, design, dance, and gastronomy events. Carnegie Hall Presents The Somewhere Project: "West Side Story"
March 4-6 [All ages] As part of the Somewhere Project--in celebration of Carnegie Hall's 125th anniversary season--their Weill Music Institute presents three performances of "West Side Story" at the Knockdown Center, a restored factory in Queens. While professional artists will take on the lead roles, students and community members from across the city will take the stage alongside them. Directed by Marin Alsop, one of Leonard Bernstein's former protegees, this performance is a celebration of music and community. Kids Food Festival in Bryant Park
March 5-6 [Ages 2+] The Kids Food Festival is a fun-filled, tasty weekend that’s also educational. The event aims to teach families about making balanced food choices and to help reduce childhood obesity. The two-day festival will feature exhibits, cooking classes, demonstrations, entertainment, and lots of yummy food. "Fly" at the New Victory Theater
March 11-27 [Ages 10+] The New Victory Theater presents “Fly,” a theatrical adventure from the NAACP Ovation Award-winning Pasadena Playhouse, and the TONY Award-winning Crossroads Theatre Company. Set in 1944, “Fly” tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen through dance and video projection. The show focuses four brave young men who join the first black military aviators in US history. St. Patrick’s Annual Open Day at the Irish Arts Center
March 13 [All ages] Celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year with a family-friendly celebration at St. Patrick’s Annual Open Day at the Irish Arts Center. To commemorate the feast of St. Patrick, the cultural center will open its doors for an all-ages exploration of Irish arts and traditions. Kids will learn how to play the tin whistle, speak Irish with the talented instructors, play music with Stomp and Shout New York, practice football skills with Manhattan Gaels, and engage in many unique Irish crafts. "The Art and Whimsy of Mo Willems" at the New-York Historical Society
Opening March 18 [All ages] The New-York Historical Society presents "The Art and Whimsy of Mo Willems," a celebration of the work of acclaimed writer, animator, and children's book author Mo Willems. Willems is best known for his books "Leonardo the Terrible Monster" and "That is NOT a Good Idea!" The exhibition showcases Willems' impressive journey, including original art, sketches, and inspirational drawings. Join the New-York Historical Society on the exhibit's opening weekend for readings by Mo, book signings, and interactive activities. Parents and children alike will glean wisdom, life lessons, and humor from Willems' vast body of work. Lightwire Theater’s "Moon Mouse, A Space Odyssey," at Symphony Space
March 19 [Ages 5-10] Get your spacesuit on and prepare for the “final frontier” adventure of a lifetime! Lightwire Theater’s new glow-in-the-dark show, "Moon Mouse, A Space Odyssey," is about literally flying to the moon. Marvin the Mouse is a lovable guy who gets bullied a lot because he is not “cool,” so to escape he builds a rocket and flies away to the moon. This interactive, fun-for-all-ages show follows Marvin’s journey to self-acceptance and self-confidence, set to the musical score of classics like Elton John’s “Rocket Man” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” Video elements, special light effects, and touching storytelling are just some elements of this innovative theatrical experience. Kids will be over-the-moon excited watching the glow-in-the-dark puppets and learning that “cool” is really just about being your true self. Admission is $18 and $15 for Members. 11am and 2pm. "Dinosaurs Among Us" at AMNH
Opening March 21 [All ages] After unveiling the 122-ft-long Titanosaur this past January, the American Museum of Natural History continues its exploration of prehistoric creatures with "Dinosaurs Among Us." The exhibition will launch with accompanying dinosaur-focused programs, a new dinosaur app, a dinosaur symposium, and a fascinating examination of the evolution of dinosaurs into birds. Queens County Farm Museum Barnyard Egg Hunt
March 26 [All Ages] It’s almost that time of the year again when all things bunnies, pastel, and chicks and eggs rule! The egg hunt season is officially open, and your kids are invited to meet Whiskers the Bunny at the Queens County Farm Museum’s Annual Barnyard Egg Hunt. Ongoing egg hunts aside, check out the fun contests like the egg tossing and egg rolling games, or dance the Bunny Hop. Don’t forget to visit the farm animals and take a hayride at the end of your day. This is a popular event, so we recommend arriving early. Let the hunting begin!
