Former independent schoolteacher, Jill Steinberg Cohen, opened wordshop, a tutoring practice that focuses exclusively on the development of writing skills, last January. In addition to offering academic support and enrichment, she also offers high school and college entrance essay guidance for middle and high school students.
Because the admissions process requires a lot of writing – sometimes numerous essays — she saw an opportunity to support kids, she says.
Steinberg Cohen offers one-on-one sessions with students ages 12-24 years old, but has also worked with parents, she says.
Steinberg Cohen offers a customized instructional approach so students can develop confidence and engage with their own writing, she says. “Kids lose motivation when they can’t write,” Steinberg Cohen says. “Their self-esteem can be affected.”
“The thing with writing is that you don’t always get the one on one attention that it takes to understand your own writing process,” Steinberg Cohen says.
Tutoring sessions with Steinberg Cohen last one hour and times are flexible. She also has the ability to offer workshops.
