PlayBright is a parent group started last spring by moms of preschoolers who got to know each other through Whitby School, which offers a compelling continuum of inquiry-based learning from 18 months to eighth grade, blending Montessori (early years) and the International Baccalaureate throughout. PlayBright seeks to connect parents of young children, ages 5 and younger, across the community and provide opportunities for networking, play, socializing, and education on early childhood topics.
PlayBright is introducing new events for the fall, all of which are free with or without affiliation to the school. The PlayBright Picnic & Play is a lunchtime event aimed at connecting parents and their young children. The play dates are scheduled to take place Oct. 10 and 24, and Nov. 13 from 12-1:30pm at the covered play area at Whitby.
The group also offers parenting workshops led by Whitby’s experienced Montessori early-childhood educators. These interactive sessions will provide attendees the opportunity to share parenting advice. The following Parents as Partners Workshops are scheduled for the fall: Raising a Confident Child on Oct. 10, Early Numeracy on Oct. 17, and Early Literacy on Nov. 14. All workshops will begin at 8:15am and will be held at Whitby.
Whitby also offers a lecture series of free public talks by renowned speakers on topics related to child development and education. On Oct. 1, Howard Gardner, Ph.D., will speak on The App Generation at 7pm at Temple Sholom in Greenwich.
