As a little girl, I was obsessed with clothes and
fashion. I blame this obsession on my
mother. She is a phenomenal seamstress
and can make just about anything. She
would make pretty much whatever I asked for, as a growing girl with evolving style. My fascination with clothes continues
today. I spend more time that I would
care to admit browsing shops, magazines and of course the internet. But my love of fashion can quickly turn into
a real dislike for getting myself dressed! —
On many occasions, I’ve stood in my bathrobe staring into a
closet filled with clothes only to declare that I did not have a thing to
wear. Nothing I pulled off the rack
seemed to fit the occasion, the weather, my mood or physical shape on that
particular day. Indecision is my worst
enemy in times like these.
So I had to laugh when I read the children’s book Zoe Gets
Ready by Bethany Murguia. The book is
about a little girl who cannot make up her mind about what to wear for the
day. Seems my predicament has been
written for a much younger audience based on Zoe’s need to pick the perfect
outfit for the kind of day she may have. Will she need pockets or something to
make her stand out? Zoe is just not sure
what to wear because she does not know what the day will bring her way.
Zoe’s closet can be seen in the window of the Scholastic Store in SoHo. One look and you’ll understand why this adorable little girl is
indecisive. Her closet is
filled with pieces from Stella McCartney’s children’s 2012 spring collection. There are even coordinating shoes and a
fantastic pair of cowgirl boots. It is
no wonder Zoe cannot get dressed!
I hate to be the one to break the news to Zoe, but this
problem will more than likely follow her for many, many years to come…
